The Tiananmen Square Protests are a Timeline Event that can occur between 1989 and 1991.
While the event is happening, no imports will be brought in from China as nations boycott China for their brutal suppression of intellectuals.
In April 1989, groups of students and intellectuals - inspired by the collapse of Communism in east Europe - began to occupy Tiananmen Square in Beijing. The protesters demanded government reforms, such as democracy, freedom of speech, and anti-corruption measures. On June 4, China sent heavily armed military units to reclaim the square. Though civilians attempted to block the approach of the military, the soldiers eventually reached their destination and began using live ammunition to kill several hundreds of protesters. News of the event was quickly suppressed and, to this day, China blocks all information on what it merely calls the "June 4th incident."
