The abdication of the old presidente of St. Helena provided the perfect opportunity for your rise to power. Now as the head of state it is your job to lead this small island nation to a new age of prosperity.

St. Helena is a modest island with rich and fertile lands, which have attracted the attention of the American food conglomerate Fruitas LTD. You should make use of the gringos to secure the financial future of the island as well as your own Swiss Bank Account.

Objective[]

Your goal is to export at least 8000 units of agricultural Exports.

Event 1 Text[]

Jan 1950[]

Congratulations on your victory, Presidente. Allow me to provide you with this helpful advice. Begin the construction of farms to cultivate the lands. Farming will guarantee a steady stream of export revenue as well as feed the citizens. Coffee, sugar and tobacco are the most profitable crops, but they will not feed the island's population.

Martin Gomez, former president of St. Helena

California, USA

P.S. Take no stock in the rumors behind my abdication. I assure you that it was due to health reasons.

Event 2 Text[]

Jan 1950[]

Presidente,

Your first action should be to build at least 2 new farms. The exports from these farms will secure additional profits.

- Open the build menu, switch to the "Farms & Mines" category and select Farm.

- Select the culture you wish to grow from the Info Panel.

- Place the farm near a fertile (green) area. Do not cover the green area or it will become unsuitable for farming.

Farms have an initial growth cycle. They will begin to produce goods up to three years after their construction.

Event 3 Text[]

Mar 1950[]

Presidente,

Frutias LTD, the multinational food conglomerate, has offered to send some of its specialists to help in the construction of new homes for the people of St. Helena. This will effectively halve the construction costs of houses and tenements.

Event 4 Text[]

Feb 1951[]

Presidente,

Fruitas LTD insists that you build a Garage to ensure the quick transportation of goods from your farms to the dock.

- Open the build menu, switch to the "Infrastructure" category and select Garage.

- Place the Garage near your farms.

- Connect the Garage to the road network by placing new roads if necessary.

Fruitas LTD has agreed to construct the next Garage for free.

Event 5 Text[]

Jul 1951[]

Presidente,

We at Fruitas LTD want to propose the following Trade Agreement. We are ready to contribute $10000 to the island's economy, if you agree that Fruitas LTD will handle all of St. Helena's agricultural exports at the current export prices for a 10-year period.

P.S. Fruitas LTD will express its gratitude to you in the form of $2000 in your Swiss Bank Account.

Choice 1[]

Accept (Lock export prices for 10 years)

Choice 2[]

Decline

Event 6 Text[]

May 1952[]

Presidente,

The American "Today and Tomorrow" magazine has named St. Helena the "worst place to live". The article states that most of our citizens live in the poorest of living conditions. In response to this the International Aid Corps have sent a financial aid package of $5000.

Event 7 Text[]

Jun 1953[]

Today I was visited by my dear friend, the CEO of the Fruitas LTD. I convinced him that it is in his best interest to approve a financial aid package for the island of St. Helena. You can decide how best to use the money.

Martin Gomez, former president of St. Helena

California, USA

Choice 2[]

My friend, housing should be one of your first priorities, once you establish a basic economy. Housing is one of the key needs of your citizens. Build houses and apartments to provide your people with a roof over their heads. The housing quality of a building defines how happy its inhabitants will be of their home.

Martin Gomez, former president of St. Helena

California, USA

Event 9 Text[]

Apr 1955[]

Presidente,

The price of fruit and other agricultural exports have risen around the world. However, due to our trade agreement with Fruitas LTD we won't benefit from this market growth.

Event 10 Text[]

Mar 1956[]

Presidente,

The farmers have begun a strike. All of our farms have ceased operation. The leader of the Capitalist Faction is the organizer of the strike, but we have reason to believe that he was instructed to do so by Wisconsin Coffee Co. The WCC is Fruitas' main competitor in the Caribbean.

Choice 1[]

Meet demands (minimum wage set to $10)

Choice 2[]

Give the workers a compensation (-$2000 Treasury)

Send the military to break the strike (people may die as a result).

(Bonus Objective) You will gain 20 score each year as long as the "Food for the People" edict is active.

Presidente,

Since the economy of St. Helena is based primarily on production of agricultural exports it could be a good idea to give your citizens bigger rations. This will lower the exports and thus the profit from corn and fruits, but it will increase the happiness of your people. If you have problems keeping your subjects happy it may be wise to issue the "Food for the People" edict.

Martin Gomez, former president of St. Helena

California, USA

Event 12 Text[]

Feb 1958[]

The trade agreement with Fruitas LTD is gravely hindering our economic development. The export prices of agricultural goods have increased throughout the Caribbean once again. But because of your deals we are now losing profits.

<name>, leader of the capitalist faction

Event 14 Text[]

Jan 1960[]

Presidente,

As the population of your island grows they will need more and more food. Corn, Banana, Papaya and Pineapple farms will feed your population, but their export will diminish as your population rises. You should build additional farms to compensate the drop in agricultural exports.

You should always keep the future of your economy in mind. Investing in the construction and development of the industry is a crucial once you secure enough funds in the Treasury. Aug 1962[]

Presidente,

Wisconsin Coffee Co. is ready to offer an exclusive price for all of your canned coffee and canned pineapple. We are ready to pay 50% above your current export price.
