Mines are resource buildings in Tropico 3 and Tropico 4. They're used to extract valuable minerals and ores from veins in the earth. However, each vein has a limited amount of ore inside it; once all the ore is mined out, it becomes necessary to find another or begin importing the material. Mines must not be located directly on top of resources, since the building will hinder the mining process, but they must be located very close to maximise production.

Mining operations are considered detrimental to the island's natural beauty by the Environmentalists and they'll be unhappy as long as any mines are present on the island.

Mines become obsolete in 1973, when they're replaced by borehole mines.

UpgradesEdit

  • Crusher: Installs a rock crusher for $1,500 and 5 megawatts of power. This increases the production of bauxite by 15% and iron by 30%.
  • Separator: Installs a separator for $5,000 and 10 megawatts of power. This increases the production of iron by 40%.
  • Screener: Installs a screener for $3,000 and 10 megawatts of power. This increases the production of iron and bauxite by 10% and gold by 20%.

Work ModesEdit

  • All Metals: The miners will mine every vein that's nearby.
  • Iron: The miners will only focus on mining the nearest iron veins. Iron can be smelted and used to make Weapons in weapons factories or Cars in car factories.
  • Bauxite: The miners will only focus on mining the nearest bauxite veins. Bauxite can be smelted and used to make Electronics in electronics factories or Cars in car factories.
  • Gold: The miners will only focus on mining the nearest golds veins. Gold can be smelted and used to make Jewelry and Fine Jewelry in jewelry factories or Electronics in electronics factories.
