For buildings of the same name in other Tropico games, see Customs Office.
The customs office is an economic building in Tropico 4. It's where policies are set to improve Tropico's economy, especially its import/export trade.
Work Modes[]
- Stimulate Exports: Tasks the officers with improving the quality of goods. Depending on the skill of the officers, the price of exported goods is increased by up to 20%.
- Free Economic Zone: Declares the island a free economic zone, allowing goods to pass through Tropico at reduced prices. Depending on the skill of the officers, the cost of importing goods is reduced by up to 30%.
- Tourist Fees: Charges tourists visiting the island taxes and fees regarding what they're bringing into the country. Depending on the skill of the officers, arriving tourists will pay up to 120% of their spending limit.
- Customs Duty Evasion: Focuses the officers on corruption, allowing everyone to line their pockets at the expense of Tropico. Depending on the skill of the officers, a fraction of the island's income from exports "disappears" and winds up in the presidente's Swiss bank account. However, to buy the officers' silence, their wages are set to a minimum of $25/month.
Radio[]
Sunny Flowers: A minor political incident occurred today - The wife of an anonymous US ambassador was stopped at the customs office because her husband had declared her as useless baggage. The woman was later released when proper duties were paid for her.
