For buildings of the same name in other Tropico games, see Bank.
Banks are economy buildings in Tropico 3 and Tropico 4. A bank can be very useful in developing an island early on. Later, once the island is better established, banks can help line the presidente's wallet or can be put to use in providing financial services to tourists. Banks are also necessary to bribe citizens.
- Urban Development: The bank gives out loans for the purpose of developing Tropico's urban center. Each bank set to this mode will decrease construction costs by up to 20%, depending on the skill of the bank's employees. Up to three banks can contribute to this decrease, allowing for a maximum decrease of 60%. This is very useful for saving the treasury money, especially later in the game. When playing with Modern Times enabled, it would be wise to build three banks with this setting before the national bank is unlocked, as they are much bulkier than the old banks.
- Slush Fund: Every month, the bank's employees secretly siphon away money from the treasury to the presidente's personal Swiss bank account. The amount of money taken depends on the skill of the bankers.
- Offshore Banking: The bank serves foreign nationals, allowing tourists to use the island as an offshore account.
