For buildings of the same name in other Tropico games, see Army Base.
Army Bases are military buildings in Tropico 3 and Tropico 4. Along with being a workcenter for military officers, army bases provide free housing and healthcare to the island's military and their immediate families. In order to live on an army base and take advantage of its infirmary, a citizen must either currently be or be married to a soldier, general, or SWAT member. The Minister of Defense doesn't count as any of these for this purpose and isn't given housing on the base. Note that military citizens won't always automatically move to army bases; it may be necessary to evict some from their current houses before they notice there's better accommodations. This is worth doing as it frees up living space for the non-military population.
If you create an alliance with the US or USSR, you'll be asked to place a foreign army base on the island for free. This army base is built instantly and isn't used by any citizens, so you can choose to place it as remotely as possible, if you don't want it to get in the way.
